The New Guard!

Good Morning Company Girls!

Well, as I sit here with my cup of tea, I've been giving some thought to a blog post I read yesterday at this site http://www.raisingfive.com/. This is a blog that I think was the second blog that I started reading regularly....it just happens to be Rachel Anne's sister, Katherine. She was mentioning about a helpful website that she was incorporating to help her in her life. I went to it and looked at it and it gave me a few ideas to try in mine.

You see last weekend I mentioned going and cleaning the trailer to ready it up for the people renting it.....well,.....not only was I in pain on Sunday....I was in severe, can barely use my hands and arms , sit around like a useless log kind of pain.....all week!!! I couldn't even do my beloved quilting....now people that is serious ...there are precious quilts to be made!!

I have a disability that I was born with that affects my arms, hands and back.......the doctor told me about ten years ago that my arm muscles and back muscles could be compared to an eighty year old...all worn out. That's a little disconcerting when you're in your forty's! Usually when I do housework these days.....I spread it all out, doing little bits at a time...my kids do a little,...my hubby does a ton. In looking at these teens in my house....it's like, wait a minute...these bodies are all bigger than you, all stronger than you, all have muscles that work better than yours...well, maybe not Megan, her motor skills leave a lot to be desired...although the muscles are still younger than mine! So,...after going to this website....Kathy Peel's Family Manager.com and looking at this...the 'Whose Responsible for What' form...I've decided that there will be a little family meeting in our house.....a little changing of the guard, so to speak.....there will be rebellion , no doubt about it.....the teens in my house our genuinely unmotivated unless they can benefit financially...and I can't afford to pay them.....so it should be an interesting meeting...don't ya think? I'll let you know next Friday just how it goes!

Have an excellent week! One more week til school!!!!!!!!

Good luck with the chores..I am always trying to implement new chore policies, but I am not reall too good at consistency and it usually ends up coming back to me...sigh! Hope you have a stronger backbone than me!

Hope you feel better this week!

Thanks for the link to the website. You should of course get loads of help from your family. It's also great training for them in the future.

Hope you are getting sometime to rest and not so sore now.

Great website link! Thanks for sharing!

Maybe the kids don't get the "Why" behind helping out. Financial motivation (aka allowance) is a great tool, but at some point you learn to only help when there is something physical to be gained. What happens if you help your kids to understand why they should help? We created a vision board (bear with me, it is not as new age as it sounds) of what we wanted our house to FEEL like. My 6 and 7 year old embraced that, and now that they sensory specific evidence for what Mom wants and expects they do a great job! I'd be happy to tell you more...email me...

Do try to get some help from your family...everyone that lives there should consider themselves part of the team. My husband helps with vacuuming and mopping because I have some back trouble.
Thanks for the link to the website!

We're also counting down to school! Best of luck with the "changing of the guard" - I hope your troops fall into place and support you.

That's too bad about your arms and hands. It is a good idea to get the kids involved with house chores. My son and daughter is responsible for keeping their room clean, and I usually give my son one extra chore a week. I change it up so he won't get bored with it.

I checked out the web site too! Isn't it helpful? Good luck!

We are already in school here. I am going to have to modify my chore list for the kids so that they have after school responsibilities instead of after lunch responsibilities. Their morning and evening chores will remain the same.

Well, have a good weekend!

The summer is flying by. I remember you blogging about you summer plans earlier in the year, and now school is starting. Hope everyone will pull their own weigh around the house. I'm lucky that my obsession with keeping things in order rubbed off on Melody.

You may be pleasantly surprised - if you share what your doctor told you with the teens, and let them know mom is truly phyisically worn out and in pain, they may rise to the occasion and help without complaint.

I've always been an optimist =-)

Too sore to pick up a needle is indeed a sad situation.

Praying that your pain is relieved and that you can rest in knowing God has a purpose for you in the bigger picture. It's hard when we can't see it, isn't it? I hate being slowed down for ANY reason - but God says, Be Still for a reason, and I hope that you can find both rest and comfort in Him...

Thank you for sharing the new site and related links! Anything to help break things down to keep our family running smoothly is welcome in my book! Our girls are small, so if I can implement it now - MAYBE it won't be such a problem when they're teenagers. (I can always dream!)

What kind of tea do you like? I'm a coffee/tea junkie and love trying new teas, as much as I love my coffees. =) I hope as I get to know more ladies in my church that I can use tea and cofee as a means of ministering to them. Visiting when they're down, sharing a cup together as we fellowship. I love how God gives us something so lovely that can be a tool in building relationships, don't you?
