A Little This and That!....

Good Morning, Company Girls!

Well, ALL the kids have just left for school!! Yea! Fridays, my youngest Megan, whom I try to homeschool, is required to attend the elementary school to remain on the school register and thus be able to be placed into a special class for high school. Would you believe me if I say that I am definitely counting the days? So, I usually call this as my 'day off''! I really do need it this week...although, unfortunately I probably wont be able to take the whole day....all this week, when I haven't been taking kids to appointments, I've been working on crafts......lots and lots of crafts.......not the ones that I would normally desire to do but when you're running a craft program for a Vacation Bible school during March Break at your church.....well, you're kind of forced into it. I've already averaged about 10 hours a day this week...so, that's about forty hours...and that doesn't count all the hours that I've spent shopping for the materials! God Bless the Dollar Stores! I would say I'm about 3/4's of the way done and I must have them all prepared for Sunday. I'm also the director of the VBS so I need next week to pull last minute stuff together......let's just say that I'm really looking forward to the week after March Break. I know, I know....you shouldn't wish your life away ....but....all I would really like is some time to do my quilting and a little reading !

Have you ever noticed that when nobody at the church wants a particular job that when you take on the job, that these people all of a sudden become the critics? There are a lot of people that maintain the thot that if you have breath left in your body that you need to be involved in some kind of ministry in the church...have you run across these type of people? The only problem with that is that when you get involved then you also become involved, unwillingly, with all the 'politic'ing in the church! I've decided that this truly sucks! (I know I'm dating myself!)
People...this is far too much stress....and if I want drama than I just have to look at my teens!

It's a good thing that I scheduled a massage for this morning...a month ago! .....and then...my teens don't know it yet...but...they'll be delivering fliers for the VBS this afternoon in the neighborhood around the church....I plan on bribing them with McDonalds!...food always works with teens!

Have a great weekend!

Enjoy your massage. It sounds like a well deserved breather in your day. Good luck with getting everything done. I hope you have a very successful VBS.

What a busy bee! I totally understand what you're saying about the "politics" of it all. You can't complain if you're not helping out. I know a lot of people will be blessed by your service, and it's for the Lord. I hope you are able to get some rest though.

I hope you are able to get all the crafts completed by Sunday.

I've heard it said, "If you ever want to get stuck doing something in a volunteer capacity for the rest of your life, do it well once." I'm part of a small church family, in which there is hardly any politicking, but I am quite familiar with the tendency of people to assume that if you are alive and capable, you are automatically enlisted.

And... enjoy your massage! It sounds like it's coming at an ideal time. :)

Sounds like you have a lot going on! VBS is such an important part of a child's life.

My husband reminded me of a saying,
"Those who can, do.
Those who can't, teach.
Those who can't teach, give advice."

I guess you could put "criticize" in that last one! I often wonder what would happen if no one stepped forward to do some of the programs and things we just "have" to have. I've suffered from VBS burnout before.....can you tell?

But it is always worth it when you see the kids loving what you've prepared! I hope you'll get some rest AND some appreciation for all your hard work!

So many folks spent their major time on the minors don't they? I find that if I enjoy doing something and do it adequately ...there's always some who apparently feel guilty for not doing it...then use criticism to make themselves feel better...they need our love..for if they are that negative, they need that much more to fill their love cups! Old habits die hard for them...but my motto is kill 'em with kindness even when given yuck!
hugs!

I hope you enjoyed your massage! I can relate about the critics. Just remember, it's not what they think that matters. God will reward you for your faithfulness!
Many children are going to be blessed by your willingness to serve! : )

"And if anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones because he is my disciple, I tell you the truth, he will certainly not lose his reward."

Your post makes me chuckle. Been there - Done that.
I've often told my husband that no woman can stand to see another women do anything that she thinks she can do better... whether she steps up and does it or not!
We lose sight of what CHURCH is all about in our 21st Century "business" of church.
Melissa got it right: ...We will not lose our reward!
Ya' just gotta' laugh it off (blog about it) and do it for the Kingdom!!!

P.S. I've not done Scrabble on Facebook, but I do like all the silly quizzes :-)

I'm glad you scheduled that massage, too! Working in a church can be hard. My pastor says (he's quoting someone else I believe) that 10% of the church does 90% of the work. I hope you get some rest, and even if others criticize your efforts, God is smiling on you!
