Be still....

Good Morning Company Girls!

Just inside the front door, of my house, is a plaque.....on it are the words 'Be still....and know that I am'

To anyone with any Christian background you automatically finish it....'be still and know that I am God.....

I was reminded of this again this week, as my world went on another tilt...again.....

Hubby and I went on a little jaunt to Florida this week....we are scheduled to fly
Home this evening....hubby's work company has an office down
Here and thy wanted him to come and teach them something....some pricing thing that he created years ago that they think is pretty good....when hubby found out that he had to go he said 'you're coming, you need a break'....so, for the last two days I've sat in a hotel room and quilted and read....watched a little tv, the weather hasn't really been conducive to sitting out...overcast, rain, thunder, lightening....so, it's been a different break, but a break nonetheless, and I am grateful.

Back to the tilting.....it's Emma...before we left home, she hinted at the fact that she may be pregnant....while down here ,she claims to have taken 'the test' and that it was positive. Quite frankly, I don't entirely believe her,....the cynical side of me thinks that it could be a huge welfare scam....but...if she is....if she is, then I have serious concerns about the welfare of an unborn babe in the care of Emma. Emma has thoroughly enjoyed her life since she left our home almost 7 months ago....she's become a part of a whole world out there that I could only compare to biblical accounts of Sodom and Gomorrah....yes, you get the picture....this is the life she wanted to experience...living in our home was boring...there was a life out there and she was determined to have it...so we had to let her go.

But...a baby, a little unborn babe that didn't make that choice...that is the rub...where
Do you put yourself when it comes to this life, .....

It's a tragedy really,....I remember when we found out that our first grandchild was coming we rejoiced...there was happiness, there was joyful expectation.....the normal reaction to the knowledge that your first grandchild was coming.....and with all the subsequent grandchildren, except for one, it was the same....excitement, jubilation....the one exception was when our son Corey's girlfriend became pregnant, there was also concern and angst as my son wanted an abortion....he knew he couldn't handle being a father...and he was right, about the bing a father, that is, not the abortion...but thankfully the abortion didn't take place and our grandson was born.

Every child deserves to be welcomed, to have people excited that they are born, to have all the normal reactions of joy and expectation at their birth. It's not the child's fault, it's the irresponsible behavior of the parents....they have no idea of the life that they have signed on for because you never stop being a parent, no matter how old your child becomes, or how irresponsible they are in their choices.

Maybe it's because I've experienced so much out of the 'normal' in parenting our nine children, and fostering close to twenty others.....is that why I feel a calmness...is that why when my kids do these things I don't feel angry and rejected....I realize that they have a free will....that these are THEIR choices , not mine...and getting angry and upset will not change it....Emma has made an irresponsible decision here and unfortunately it will affect an innocent life. She doesn't see this right now, she doesn't see the magnitude of this decision....we do because we've lived with the irresponsible decisions in our home in the form of our children for many years....no child deserves that...no child deserves that kind of angst in their life that follows them into adult life, and that no man can ever completely erase.

That is my greatest concern today...this life...if there is a new one....but even if it's not in Emma, unfortunately there are many others out there to take it's place.....other children who are thrust into this world without comfort and security....

I have to remind myself of the plaque in my living room....

Be still.......relax, pause...

And know......turn toward Me..

That I am God....your refuge and strength, your ever present help in time of trouble, your fortress and deliverer....

I may have to remind myself of this every day, every moment...when my world is on a tilt.....

Be still...and know.....that I am.

Two years ago...

Two years ago...I was in Chicago, hubby had a pricing conference there..we had driven down three days previous. I love Chicago....eldest daughter went to college there, so for five years we regularly went there...I remember when she graduated and moved back home, being somewhat disappointed that I didn't know when I'd ever get back to Chicago. Hubby had arranged that we'd spend a couple of nights in a hotel in the heart of Chicago, (the conference itself was at a hotel by the airport) to finish off our little get away.....every day I was in contact with my sister at home...you see, my dad had been in the hospital for six weeks....he went in due to a complication from his diabetes, ended up contracting several nasty hospital bacterias...Norwalk, C dificile, VRE, the one caused him to have a heart attack....but everyone encouraged me to go....even my dad....he seemed to be slowly gaining the week I was away....until the day the conference was over...we had just moved from one hotel to the other and were out walking down those wonderful streets by the river...when the first text from my sister came....dad was having some problems...by the third or fourth text, hubby and I had decided that we'd leave first thing in the morning....by early evening, it was too late...I wordlessly handed my phone to hubby, with trembling running thru me ,when the final text came thru from sister...'call me' .

When you're a little girl, you develop a different attachment to your dad than you do your mom. When I was little, I went thru many surgeries.....surgeries that had to take place at Sick Children's hospital in Toronto.....about an hour and a half drive from home. I remember well my dad, working every morning, then taking his holidays to take the afternoons to drive to Toronto every day, so him and my mom could see me....he only got two weeks holidays every year...but he willingly gave them up...for me...

My dad would sit and help me with my homework...he was the one who came when I was sick, in the night...and he was the one who told me from his hospital bed 'you have amazed your mom and me by all that you do'....i was so pleased....praise was not often given in our family...

A girl develops her security thru her dad....I see it in my daughters with my hubby....the last three weeks my hubby has been very ill...my daughters have all reacted differently to seeing their dad not his usual self...but I know that they look to him for their security too....when they were younger, two of them needed surgery and each time they chose their dad to walk them into the operating room...to hold their hand til they were put to sleep....hubby was never one of those warm cuddly dads when the kids were growing up (except when they were babies, he LOVES the babies and would sit and rock them in the middle of the night)....he would fall asleep holding them, they would cuddle into his soft chest and belly and be content...but as they were growing, they would lock horns...each and everyone of them....hubby likes things done a certain way ( he's an accountant!) kids never cared about doing things in a certain way......so, one would be surprised that the kids would turn to him for their security in times of uncertainty....but they did...and when he's been sick these last few weeks, I've seen that look in their eyes, that uncertainty, that slight tremble of panic that says...he can't be sick...he's dad!

When my dad left me, two years ago today...of course I wasn't the only one he left...I don't want to sound self centered here,...but it was a day of despair...not that he was in heaven...oh no, I knew that it was so much better for him...after all he'd been in terrible pain for a number of years, his dialysis wasn't working very well, he was tired and worn out...now he was walking in heaven without a twinge...he was chatting with loved ones gone before, he was walking with Jesus. No, I wasn't sorry he was there, but I was in despair that he wasn't here....I still miss him terribly...not a day goes by that I don't look heavenward...I say, 'hi dad'.....and when the trials and tribulations of this world cause me to say to myself...oh dad, I'll be so glad when I see you again and you look at me and say...'hi Marie, I've been waiting for you, I've missed you too.' Oh, what a beautiful day that will be.

Good Morning Company Girls!

This is the start of a busy weekend. My grandsons are coming! Of course, they'll be bringing their mom and dad....and their dog...mustn't forget the dog....there's really not anything like the experience of having THREE Old English Sheepdogs in the house!
My van needs to go into the shop tomorrow to have the tires rotated...who knew you were supposed to do that regularly...not me..and well, it would seem that my front tires have pretty well worn themselves down ...hubby thinks we'll just rotate them to the back...which, according to everyone but me, knew that you're suppose to be doing all along! Good grief...there's always something when you own a vehicle.

Today, I have to leave in a few minutes to have my bone density test done....and then race to a massage appointment 30 minutes later.....then come home and clean up the quilt room so William has a place to sleep.....may be driving Maya to eldest daughter's place tonight, which is now about a 45 minute drive, one way, since they moved...they need maya to babysit tomorrow....Maya is having some Really Difficult times right now....she didn't get the summer job at her favourite summer camp, she didn't get into the praise and worship team at the church, which she was really hoping for( and so was I, people need to feel accepted at their church and she doesn't), she's having a hard time at work....one of the boss's is clearly racist, but of course nothing Maya can prove, I just keep telling her that she just has to work there 4 more months to get her college money, but it's hard.....so, if you could pray for her when you think of her I'd appreciate it..she's a good kid...she just makes some poor choices in effort to belong and be accepted by others. It's quite difficult for her.

Yesterday, I had my grand daughters for the day and the night before. Their mom had something to do yesterday and it was easier if they came here. They were pretty good and kind of amusing at times....at one point 3 year old Afton said...'nana, do you have chocolate Cheerios'.....I said no...she said, 'well, I'll just have to look over what you have in the morning then'...with a resigned sigh.....Don and I just looked at each other....

Oh, and last Tuesday, the quilting ladies and I drive over the border, into New York state and went shopping! What fun it was....we stopped and had lunch at Applebee's ...it was a great time and we have resolved to do it again!

So, must be off..on with the day and the appointments.....always appointments....someday I'd love to throw away my appointment calendar!

Have a good weekend everyone!

Easter, Birthdays, Sheepdogs and a Plan...

Good Morning Company Girls!

It's been a lovely week in April, the weather has been a little cooler than one would like but I love April and May, my very favourite months of the year so the cooler weather is okay.
How was your Easter...ours was very busy at our house....Eldest son and his family came for the weekend...and on Saturday all but two of my kids were here as well as significant others and grandchildren...we had a lovely Easter dinner...all 18 of us...oh yes, I invited my mom too...she said...'oh, but you already have so many, you don't need me'...I replied..'well, yes we do...one more isn't going to hurt and if I didn't want you there than I wouldn't have asked you'...She grinned and came.....

On Sunday, it wa a quieter day, with church in the morning ,then in the afternoon, just eldest son and his family were here...which of course means that Sweet William and Smiley Samuel were here....they are the cutest little guys...William had his first Easter basket...he wasn't quite sure what to do with the chocolate Easter bunny but once he was shown...well, you can guess...he thoroughly enjoyed it.....little Samuel ..

is a little too young for chocolate yet but I imagine by next Easter he'll be in there with William, enjoying it too....then they left (as well as their Old English sheepdog)...you really need to experience a household with three grown Old English Sheepdogs in it...especially when two like to be continuously playing! The house was quiet...the kids wanted to put the television on...I said NO!...I was enjoying the quiet.....I have noticed, that at the age that hubby and I are at...we love having all the family here...we truly do....but the quiet...the quiet when everyone leaves is truly magical...

This week had many appointments and Maya's 20th birthday! We had a birthday cake for her when everyone was here last Saturday and then yesterday, her actual birthday, I took her out to lunch before she had to go into work..and tomorrow, she wanted everyone to go bowling for her birthday gift....it's the birthday that never ends!

Next week our quilting group is going on a little excursion! We are all looking forward to traveling over the border into Buffalo to Joanne's Fabrics...while we're there we are also planning on having lunch.....you see, we Canadians are deprived..we don't have a Joannes store...to a quilter, Joannes is like a candy store....we've talked about going for a couple of years and now we're finally going...well, that's the plan anyways. I'm hoping that I remember my camera to take lots of pictures....5 crazy quilters descending on the border at Buffalo, oh my....

Don't ya just love it when a plan comes together?

I feel like I'm Ninety!

Good Morning Company Girls!

How are you all doin'? Me..well, I'm doing okay, I guess...except for one of my toes...that I broke yesterday!...

You can even see some of the nail polish from my pedicure a few weeks ago...which was an okay experience...maybe I'd enjoy the next one more...this time I just kept wondering what she was doing next and since she had an accent (and I'm terrible with understanding any accent) I wasn't sure sometimes just what she wanted me to do, wasn't as relaxing as my sister swore up and down that it was going to be. I told my hubby, when I got home that now I'd have to be taken to somewhere to show off my new nail polish, but unfortunately he didn't get the jet out and whisk me off to someplace tropical!

I was going to show you a pic of Maya's new hairdo....so, here it is....

I will admit that other than having her hair long and natural...beautiful curls...(that unfortunately, she doesn't know how to look after...my fault cause I had her hair braided , every few weeks since she was three) this seems to be the best do for her...wash and go...she likes it...

Emma is still in Toronto...staying at a shelter there, (at least I hope that's where she's staying) I have my suspicions though that the bloom is definitely fading off the Toronto rose....will see how this week coming turns out.

I've been busily working on the 64 log cabin blocks for my next quilt....on the last set of 12 today and determined to get it done so I can get it laid out and put together....once that top is completed then I will put together another one...similar pattern but different colours...my plan is to have both tops completed to take to the trailer, to hand quilt this summer. Nobody told me when I chose two similar patterns of log quilt blocks that log cabin was soooooo tedious...good grief, I do believe that these will be my only log cabin quilts!

Eleven years ago today I became a grandmother...nana to my grandkids....it's Jairus' birthday today!

Jairus was born with a disability that has hindered his speech for all his eleven years...he was 8 years old before I even heard him say 'nana'...every week he goes to speech therapy and slowly he's learning new words and he works very hard at it....he's a sweet boy, very stubborn, a little OCD, extremely sensitive, and very smart! We love him dearly, and we couldn't have asked for a better first grandchild. He even holds his own with his three younger sisters...

Happy Birthday Jairus!

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend....we were suppose to have Jairus and his two sisters tonight (one was going to a highland dance competition tomorrow but as of last night she was busy being sick).....so, we'll see if they end up coming....

Wishing you all a blessed Palm Sunday this Sunday as we celebrate the triumphal entry....hope you all have a lovely day.

...and the beat goes on.....

Good Morning Company Girls!

So, weather wise, in my neck of the woods, it's been fabulous...a little (a lot) concerning for the farmers and grape growers in our area though because everything is growing and budding and for sure we're not done with the cold weather yet...it's actually been just like Florida weather...but we stayed home...interesting...

It's been quite the few weeks...so much going on but the high lite of it all was our two youngest grandsons coming for a visit....their mom and dad went for a well deserved couple of days away to Niagara-on-the-Lake and we got to look after the boys....they were very good...no problems...well, except for 7 month old Samuel...who isn't weaned yet, wouldn't take the bottle...only wanted his mama for that...thank the Lord he was on solids or we would have been in big trouble....but...other than that it was a great time...so good that I forgot to take pictures.. :0(

March Break wasn't a break...on the road 4 out of the 5 days, taking kids for appointments ....one was to get Maya's hair cut REALLY short.....when she was a toddler and her hair was just growing it came in in soft little curls all over her head....because Maya is biracial, she has hair that isn't fuzzy or 'nappy' as some people call it....I didn't think I was going to like it short but I will admit to it looking nice on her...I'll have to get a pic taken for sure to show you...another appointment was to take her to a private college where she wants to take a course to become a Personal Support Worker..PSW....she doesn't want to spend the rest of her life working at Tim Horton's so, that's a good thing....she hopes to start in September ....right now she's just waiting for April 1st to see if she got accepted to go to the camp up north (that she worked at last summer) for the summer....I sure hope she gets it...she's been going around here like a bear with a sore rear end waiting on it...if she doesn't get in, well, we're ALL in trouble...think I'll spend a lot of time at the trailer this summer!

Speaking of trailer...we have to get ours put back together soon....last fall hubby and eldest son took it apart to remove the rotting floor...now we have to guesstimate how much flooring we need to put down..right now it's just the plywood subfloor...then we have to find a new table cause hubby doesn't want to do the old one that attaches to the wall...he wants a free standing one..so, I think we'll check out Ikea...although eldest son thinks it would be better to make one..unfortunately he's the only one qualified to do that and he doesn't have the time...I hope he'll have the time to put the trailer back together though or I wont be going anywhere this summer!

Speaking of sons...I have one that I don't talk about very often...his name is Corey...he's the second oldest son, in our family. I haven't seen him that often in the last few years...he's had some prison time and the woman he's living with is kind of controlling...he called me the other night...he was trying to get ahold of his son's mother but the phone number didn't work...she said I could give it to him if he asked, so I did...while we were talking Emma called...Emma, in her infinite wisdom has taken herself to Toronto to live...at a shelter..in her words it's a rich shelter, do those two words actually go together?...anyways, when I told Corey that I had to take Emma's call, he said he'd call back...and he did...she was in Hamilton for the day and wanted me to drive her back to Toronto, with some of her stuff that she had rescued from her room she had rented in Hamilton...long story involving police, landlords and housing workers....I told her to call me back in a few minutes...meanwhile Corey called back to see what she wanted....when he heard ,he was emphatic that I not do that...well, I had already decided that...I don't do Toronto..I find it an intimidating city....and especially at night...by myself...I told her I'd get some of her stuff and store it but she'd have to find her own way back on the bus...she was good with that...Corey insisted on meeting me at the Hamilton shelter that she was calling me from....he's like that...he doesn't see or talk to you for months but he's very overprotective, so I agreed. (Don was teaching and I couldn't get in touch with him while all this was going down)....so, Corey met me and Emma was still there...we loaded her stuff in the van, than I took her to the bus station where she caught the bus back to Toronto....I'm really not sure what's going to happen with that girl..I just keep on praying...

There have been many, many other things going on in my family...some I can talk about...but this is just suppose to be a blog post, not a book...(although a lot of people have told me that I should write one)...and other things that I wouldn't want to talk about....life goes on...I don't know all the answers, I don't know the future...and that's a good thing...but I know the one that does, and that's a very good thing because without that knowledge I couldn't go on....

Hoping you all have a wonderful weekend......my little grandsons are getting on a plane this evening with their mama to fly north to visit her family for a few weeks...praying that all goes well for them..and for my son, who is left behind...I think he's going to find his house strangely different for the next two weeks, with just him and his dog! Those little guys really get into your heart...I hope their other grandparents enjoy them as much as we do...

Take care Company Girls and all those that read this blog....may the Lord bless you today.

Good Morning Company Girls!

well, this is what's going on out my bedroom window this morning.......

and yesterday I saw the first Robin and the day before it was 16 degrees celcius (about 62 farenheit)....good grief...it really should make up its' mind! I didn't mean to post the same pic twice...but now I don't know how to delete the extra...sorry...

It's been a busy week....quilt class, book club, ladies luncheon, dealing with my kids and their ever present difficulties resulting from their delays...I really think it's getting worse....eeeek!......today, I hav to drive one of them about 35 kilometers away, drop her off at an appointment, then hurry myself to a dental appointment..(pray that my van doesn't get the window smashed in again), then go to a mall, where I am meeting my sister and where I'm supposed to experience my very first pedicure....when sister announced it at our luncheon yesterday, all the ladies exclaimed just how much I was going to enjoy it...sister said I had to wear sandals so I didn't wreck the nail polish...ummmm....you want to look at this pics above...don't think it's going to happen...think I'll just have to try and make sure the polish is good and dry before I put my shoes and socks on....

this week I read a book..not the one I was suppose to have done for book club....the store backordered it and I didn't get it in time...this one was a fiction quilting book called Sonoma Rose......I enjoyed it....

Last Saturday we went out to help at eldest daughter's new house.....'the men' were drywalling a room and so I helped with cleaning and unpacking..came home exhausted but pleased that the kids enjoyed the things I made for their rooms....

a wall hanging for the girl's room...

and since i didn't think my grandson would appreciate something like that...i quilted a small pillow for his bed...

front...

and a colorful back...

now, it's time to get back to other quilting projects....I started a quilt top before Christmas but abandoned it to do the kids projects so I really need to reacquaint myself with it...then...i picked up some flannel the other day after watching a self binding receiving blanket tutorial on Missouri Star quilt....looks kind of neat and I have a baby shower to go to in a week....wouldn't mind getting a couple of those done.....

yes, trying to avoid the obvious....this week is the start of spring or March break in our area.....Ben and Megan will be home...all day, every day....good grief....

and this Sunday we've got family coming for Ben's 21st birthday! Where has the time gone....he's also been bring home stuff pertaining to his graduation in June....(delayed kids can stay in school til they're 21 in our area).......now, we'll have to look at finding him a job!

So, that's about it for me....hope you all have a wonderful weekend.....and if you're going away somewhere sunny and warm for March break...I really don't want to hear about it... :0) Take Care!
